Pain in the Roof

After all the effort put into keeping the roof from leaking over last week’s rains, it only caused more issues. The tar stuff covered many holes but there was a problem walking on the roof. It caused the ceiling to come down even more and I ended up under it when it fell.

The rains are gone now and there is to be some serious work to be done now. We have to be very careful though because the metal roofing is very unpredictable and thin. The 2x4’s will be placed up first to give us a support system over the old roof. Placing chip board over the top of the 2x4’s will give us a place to walk safely.

Yesterday was a great day, first our class participated in the Special Olympics and Last night was a great night. Our school had a dance recital and I got to be in it, even if it was for a few minutes dance. My children and grandchildren were there to support me. It was a wild night. And yes I would do it all over again despite these old bones. What a way to end the day!

We had pigs all get loose the other day and one of our males also go loose.  He is now in the pen with all the girls Yikes.  I think we are going to have an explosion of pigs this year as 5 or more are ready to be bred. Time for some pasture expansion.

In the meantime Classes are on their last weeks and testing has begun. Time will be flying now. Kids are ready to go to summer break and I am looking forward to a great start on getting things done on the house.

Work in Progress

As you may already know we are working on fixing our roof and floors that have been damaged, but We took some time off from it to take in a school play and that was the first date we have had in a while. We even went out for ice dreams after, but we had a tag along with us. Grace got to see her first play. She loved it.  it was so funny "The 25th Annual Putnam Co. Spelling Bee."
We have had a few nice days and Pooh has cleaned off all the branches and such off the roof and we have prepared to cover temporary holes with a tarp but that proved to only worsen the rains coming in. Now we had filled a bunch with sealer and aluminum sheeting just so it would not leak inside the house anymore. As he started to pull off the tarps and sweep the oakies off I had gone in to get something and found that the kitchen ceiling had taken a turn for the worse also. It had already had a small piece of rock board come down (which is double layered), but this time the whole center was falling in. The light which we were just talking about replacing with a lighter smaller light was the only thing that held it up. Clean up was my job. We took the light fixture out of my office and got ready to take down that big florescent light and wow! The whole center really came with it. I had to grab it before it smashed Pooh’s head.  There was not even enough to replace the light fixture so it is hanging from the hole for the time being. I had purchased a new light for my office and it will look very nice once we put up the new ceiling in there. For now it will go on the old one.

The sealer was added to all the holes we could cover all except in the place where Pooh put his foot through and it got the aluminum over it first. I know that the foundation is going to be getting a jack up and shored up Because the tree took out the center brace top brick. Then and only then can we start adding the rafters.  I just hope the sealer works for the time being because we have rain coming in today through Tuesday.

I managed to get the front part of the hill mowed and it took me two days with the push mower. But I don’t care it burns so many calories and that is what I am working on doing for myself his year.

It will all come together in the end one day at a time, one pay check to the next. Updates will come as we progress.
