Where I’m From

Where I’m from
Emma Dorsey

I am from Clothes line drying in the breeze,
Knockin nails and building things.
I am from high on the hill with home cooked meals.
I am from fields with Tiger lilies and frogs.
The Maple where we climbed and built forts so high.
I’m from overnight stays and hot headed ways,
From Gramma grunt and  poppa henry.
I’m from gardens of plenty, night crawlers and fishin,
And from huge bowls of popcorn in front of the telly.
I’m from you’ll never amount to a hill of beans, to I love you and you are
My sunshine.
I’m from fireworks on the fourth creating lot of noise.
I’m from somewhere I will never return to and some where I want to go.
Poppa’s homemade Potpie noodles and  Great Granny bird’s grape jellies.
From Great Granddad’s home brewery during prohibition
and my gramma and auntie’s whoopin (for sharing it with their friend.)
Poppa and Gramma’s pictures side by side, when they were just young loves,
Set on my nightstand to remind me of love
I am the dud in the fireworks that came as a surprise that finally explodes
Into the night skies.

Big & Rich, Sally & Wilbur

After much thought and research, our farm has added an addition of 2 young mother Guinea Hogs

that have been bred recently. Both have had their first litters and shared their babies when caring and

feeding them. (This is great for us after our last momma pig ate her babies from both litters.) Each

had 5 to the litter. We named them after one of our favorite bands because one was big and the other

little.

This was the first thing that came to mind. We have placed them into their new pen and will be

mending the old donkey pen to give them a grazing field in the spring. They are unlike most pigs that

need to be fed much grain and other foods. They tend to graze on grasses, acorns and other goodies

that come from the earth.

Both of our Duroc hogs have grown and one is ready for slaughter. Wilbur is in some ways sadly

coming to his end to fill up the freezer. Sally will be bred to a friends hog and her babies will be up

for sale when the time comes. We are definitely upping our game when it comes to hogs and a great

deal of time and energy will be put into them as time passes. Researching the linage of the new pigs

will help us to get registration for them. That will help out in the long run.

Come January we will be truly hog farmers.

Cooler Weather is Welcome as the Seasons Change

Backdoor almost completed
Fall is here and the weather is finally cooling down enough to be able to stand being in the outdoors without melting. It has been an almost non productive summer and that was not the way I expected it to go. The ship we were expecting did not sail the way we thought it was suppose to sail also. With that being said it will be a very frugal remodel and at best the new roof  and floors will be the major part of the plan that will be making the grade.Hopefully enough money to rebuild the outer walls on the trailer that are beyond repair. Not near enough money to fix all the bad windows and  much of the older parts of the house that is in dire need of face lift. Time will tell how much of this project will come to its final path but I can only hold out hope that we can maybe accomplish things as time goes by.

So many other things need  to have priority before my car can be added to the list of fixes. One thing for sure the drive is a major must as we just put a hole in the oil pan on the other car. It is fixed now but low rides have no business climbing this ole hill.

I have been doing a lot of small creative projects for the house's decor over the summer in hopes that it will create a theme throughout the whole house when all the painting and rearranging gets on the way. I do know the kitchen will be moving for sure. With the new backdoor installed it is far easier to get there without having to go all the round about way.

I have done a lot of cleaning and ridding of all the old stuff no longer in use, which will make moving rooms simpler when the time comes. Until then we are still waiting for the money to finally come in and we can only hope for the best.
