Hog Heaven

Over the weekend we finally got our registered Guinea hogs. We bought a momma and three boys from a man who wanted out of the pig business. We were hoping to get the boar along with  them but he had already been promised to someone else. Our daughter and her sweetheart helped us bring them home. After getting them in the pen and settled in a bit I went down to the barn to see them. The three boys are just a bit over nine weeks old. Their momma may be  pregnant also. The boys are very tame and  boy do they love to get scratched! I started to scratch one and he fell over on his back, then one more comes to get scratched and the same happened and yes the final one came over and fell over too. I am in love. They are so much like my Wilbur was.
As for my new babies from my other girls, they are doing great. They come out every day and soak up the sun with their  mommas.

From 2 to 12 in a Matter of a Week

In just a few short days we have gone from 2 very fat momma pigs to 12 pigs. As you may have read earlier that we had one of our momma’s Agatha give birth to 4 babies. Three girls and one boy. Well, when I got off to work this morning I got a message soon after telling me we have 6 more babies.  This is a pig stock is up and running now.It amazes me that  the first batch is out running and even eating the sweet feed their momma's leave in the pen. All in all I think we only have one boy in the whole bunch.

On another note we did get the other two hogs processed and now have a freezer full of meat, but in that process the bottom hinge on the freezer door broke and now we had to get it fixed. We have 70 pounds of sausage now so I am glad I am a great biscuit maker and make a mean batch of gravy.

New Arrivals

This morning was a joyous surprise for the farm! We now have four baby piglets, babies of Ms Agatha (aka Big) They were all running around wide eyed and bushy tailed while their momma came out to eat.
Yesterday, I went down to check on Aggie and her sister Lucy and Aggie had escaped sometime before that. I panicked knowing how close she was to her due date. I ran back up to the house to get some food and call for her in hopes she would come running. When I started towards the barn she was in the drive waiting for me. Guiding her back to the pen I scolded her for giving me a rush. (Not like she understood me but it made me feel better.)
We are expecting Lucy to have her babies this coming week  so we will have an update and more pictures of the newbies when that happens.
This weekend has been a productive  time now that weather has changed and we can get some work done on the house project. Yesterday we started to tear down the old deck on the one end of the house  to prepare for the living room addition of our house. I have been finding many more flowers that have started poking their heads out of he ground due to all the warm weather. I have dug them up and put them in pots for the new garden area when the time comes. We are getting ready to move some dirt to add footers. Little by little things are moving in the right direction, that is if the weather stays on the warms side and not turn cold like it did a week ago. We were to get four  inches of  snow. It was here one minute and gone the next. We never know what Georgia weather will bring so we take advantage while we can.
